GRad ring
a Special ring
My grandfather had a ring without a stone it is solid as a rock, no letters and no engraving, designing a ring that resembles and honors his existence. On the other hand the ring pushed me an extra mile, self-tough Rhinoceros and learned everything that I could, I had no idea what a ring shank or bezel were back then, deep researching, watched many tutorials in molding and casting while in class, advise how to set a stone, and it eventually got me where I’ve needed to be. Every stars represents a member of my family.
final sketch
Wanted to make things simple, organize where the stars would go, name, mascot and name.
Main geometry of the ring starting with gray center line 18mm and worked around it.
Top first view of the renders to see how it is going to look in real time, with the stars and so on. (Bottom) ) First 3D wax printed out. The main idea was to have Kean’s Logo n the left side of the ring shank, however because there’s no room for small letters I rather to go with the Kean’s Mascot instead.
Dimensions of the ring along where it is going to be placed it, center view and top view.
The Garnet stone sits perfectly on was printing out.
Industrial design it represents my bachelors career, along with the cougar mascot and 3 stars representing my siblings. The single solid line around the side shank represents unity and get filled out with epoxy resin.
Right side shank with my favorite red color, plus one start, it represents my family, myself, my name, branding PA and the year that I’ve completed my bachelors.
I rather not to go with gold because, gold itself it’s pretty expensive metal, and to get it out of the ground it takes an average of 10-20 tons of dirt removed in order to get an ounce of gold, many animals lose their habitats by doing so.
An average ring cost itself is around 2k casted in gold plus the stone. I’ve spent a 1/4 of the actual cost.
